One of the things that makes the Hudson Valley so great for weddings is the vast array of venues available for couples. Not only can you find traditional reception halls and hotels, but you also have your choice of historic homes, sweeping riverfront vistas and my new personal favorite, farms. If you are currently planning your wedding, I highly encourage you to check out some of the amazing properties available for wedding rentals in the Hudson Valley. A quick Google search will pull up several farms to choose from. If you think a farm wedding is for you, hopefully you’ve had a chance to read my article in the 2016 April/May issue of Organic Hudson Valley, in which I shared everything you need to know before choosing a farm as your venue and provided a list of farm sites available.
Farm weddings are one of the hottest wedding trends right now. Pinterest searches are full of weddings with rustic, vintage charm; but what I perhaps love most about having a barn or farm wedding is the creativity and sustainability they promote. Let’s face it: barns and farms were not built for the purpose of hosting a wedding. So when you are choosing a farm for your wedding, you are really starting with a blank slate that needs to be filled in with decorations, flowers and props to give it more of a “wedding” feel. Of course, the degree to which you decorate is completely up to you; however, before you stress out too much about how you are going to create the space you’ve always dreamed of, really look at the surroundings.
