After a decade of living in the Hudson Valley and a lifetime of visiting, I’ve come to expect charming inns with chefs trained at the Culinary Institute of America, lively farmers’ markets teeming with local bounty, ruggedly beautiful landscapes, exquisite food in roadside restaurants and spa experiences that nourish body and spirit. I found all these gems in and around Accord, NY. My husband and I use our dates to explore small towns in the area, and our recent excursion to Accord gave us a great local getaway, perfect for a daytrip or a long weekend.
According to its local government website, Accord is a hamlet-on-the-Hudson within the town of Rochester, which was founded in 1703. It sits in the Rondout Valley, a picturesque spot between the Catskill Mountains and the Shawangunk Ridge. Chef Mark Suszczynski calls it a “micro valley” and loves the laid-back, peaceful atmosphere of the area where he and his wife, Kimberly Weeks, run the Elm Rock Inn.
