Eating Well While Doing Good

On a gorgeous, warm and breezy Sunday afternoon in late July, approximately 300 people took part in an astonishing harmonic convergence. No, not a configuration of planets but a much more important alignment of two vitally needed, fiercely local entities: the North East Community Center (NECC) and an extraordinary gathering of area chefs and farmers.
Held under a spacious tent on the grounds of Silo Ridge Country Club, the 7th Annual Chef & Farmer Brunch, benefiting NECC, was kicked off with warm welcomes by NECC Executive Director Jenny Hansell and Board Chair Sherrell Andrews. Patrons were then invited to sample locally produced goods from an impressive array of vendors just outside the tent. Hailing from Chatham, Pine Plains, Ancram, Millerton, Dover Plains, Millbrook, Sheffield, MA and right next door in Amenia, these included field-to-glass artisan distillers, brewers, a famed winemaker, a highly accomplished syrup producer, a herbalist and farmers offering local produce.
