The first thing you need to know about Zoe’s Ice Cream Barn in Lagrangeville is that the name is a bit of a misnomer. For one thing, owner and ice cream–mastermind Katie Ferris isn’t actually named Zoe; it’s a nickname her father bestowed upon her at birth. And there’s more to the menu than ice cream, including burgers, fries and hearty seasonal options, such as tacos and soups, throughout the colder months.
The building definitely looks like a barn, though—a homage to both her family’s roots and the hardworking men and women of the Hudson Valley who make her business possible. Ferris grew up in Beekman, on Cooper Lane Farm, raising livestock for 4-H with her brothers and sisters and learning firsthand how much work goes into running a farm.
