An Artist with a Passion For Color
Story by ML Ball
If you love color—bright, lush, eye-popping color—you’re sure to fall head over heels with the brilliantly original work of fused glass and mosaic artist Barbara Galazzo. Originally from New Orleans and now living and working in Cold Spring, Barbara’s award-winning creations are featured in major galleries, museums and commercial installations throughout the country and around the world, even as far away as Armenia.
As with many (if not all?) artists, Galazzo’s path was neither straight nor predetermined. Her first career was as a professional ballet dancer in New York, followed by three years as a legal secretary. While searching for her third career, she started making ceramic jewelry, which then led to working with fused glass. Almost exclusively self-taught, Galazzo at first made glass functional pieces such as sushi trays, then progressed to small bowls, then big bowls, then wall pieces and freestanding sculptures.
