There are plenty of restaurants to choose from on Main Street in New Paltz, and as you’re sitting in traffic, you might wonder which of them would be worth a stop.
A Tavola Trattoria would be a top choice. It’s a warm, rustic place, with an emphasis on locally sourced, seasonally inspired dishes, much like you would find in Italy.
There are lots of interesting dishes to choose from, and the menu changes with the seasons. I started with the grilled octopus with chickpeas, Taggiasca olives and roasted red peppers. The octopus was tender and perfectly grilled. The olives added a nice salty touch to the dish and went well with the chickpeas and peppers.
My friend had the slow-roasted beet salad with burrata, arugula, poppy seeds and pistachios. True confession—I loathe beets, so I just nibbled a bit of the burrata, which was nice with the crunch of the poppy seeds and pistachios. She loved the whole dish and quickly polished it off.
